These cryptic lyrics only make me get excited at what the album has in store for us :D. So in terms of sharing impressions, one though I’d add is related to the beginning of the PV ( where the writing goes like loading , cleaning up, syncing audio) It’s like an immersion, into a sort of reality ( maybe the protagonist’s inner self , which would explain why he is the only one in the audience) so then we are also guided through the protagonist’s own struggles to make a sense of the goddess’ message ( or himself for that matter). Looking at the PV , I also cannot help but notice the red-white alternation – life/ death, purity/ passion. But then I also get this feeling that the red is becoming like a thread - linking ideas and motifs throughout the album - whether it takes the shape of revolutionary scarves, wine, or blood (a buck tick style ariadna's thread in a constructivist labyrinth ) delanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02282941551812854526noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-59855401730641363702014-05-19T01:41:56.913+09:002014-05-19T01:41:56.913+09:00I’m really impressed with the way you translated t...I’m really impressed with the way you translated the lyrics. I had tried to translate them before I gave up; no matter the type of phrasing I used I always thought these lyrics would majorly suck in English. Especially the first verses! But you managed to come up with a fair translation remarkably; you intelligently used some additional wording that helped conveying the original feeling. Wow, Cayce. romerohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03691582987380513427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-77161847448557328752014-05-17T13:05:02.614+09:002014-05-17T13:05:02.614+09:00Oh sure, Sakurai might have had images from the &q...Oh sure, Sakurai might have had images from the "Ashes to Ashes" video in his head, though it's also possible that it's just something that's part of his consciousness as a Bowie fan and comes out sometimes without his quite realizing it. I don't think the lyrics to this song have anything to do with the lyrics to "Ashes to Ashes," though...as a song, that one was a pretty straightforward story of how a former hero got old and became a sad, balding drug addict.Caycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05982217665840858486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-10122972928562316492014-05-17T04:03:25.129+09:002014-05-17T04:03:25.129+09:00firstly i love reading these in-depth reviews :) a...firstly i love reading these in-depth reviews :) and secondly i may be just reading too much into it but the first thought that came to my mind with the mention of clown was david bowie and his Ashes to Ashes pv (he's dressed as a clown) and when i saw "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" i thought maybe i wasn't so crazy (buck-tick being self proclaimed bowie fans), maybe they got some inspiration there...the beginning lyrics follow a similar single few words unfolding at a time pattern and bowie's lyrics of "strung out in heavens high, hitting an all time low" and "never done anything bad, never did anything good, never did anything out of the blue" mirror Sakurai's moral ambiguity in the song between good and evil...Sakurai's imagery of being alone in the audience might also echo Bowie's illusion of singing and then holding a picture frame up which reveals himself singing inside it, who's the spectator and who's the performer? while bowie is unsubtle about dealing with his drug addictions, something Sakurai is not singing about at all perhaps it is a song exploring being the object of everyone's attention and becoming a characterization of self like you said as one of your suggestions (the ziggy stardust effect so to speak)? just wanted to bring another possible interpretation :) A.Berndthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05553774890081882116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-72933136634189791232014-05-16T13:07:44.505+09:002014-05-16T13:07:44.505+09:00You know what, the more I think about this, my fav...You know what, the more I think about this, my favorite thing about this is how we have this very dramatic imagery and he almost underplays it by diagnosing himself: "bloody... bloody melancholia" (:crossparallelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07731017836081721370noreply@blogger.com
