It just makes me sad that Sakurai's fans turned out to be such a joyless lot.

I have no idea if Sakurai is a metal fan or not, he has never given any indication either way. The point I was trying to make in the music analysis is that a number of the songs on I Am Mortal use musical devices that are most commonly seen in metal music, and perhaps that confused some of the fans whose musical tastes aren't very wide-ranging.Caycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05982217665840858486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-72114236665650836212016-03-15T02:26:38.848+09:002016-03-15T02:26:38.848+09:00Sorry for the late comment but just had to congrat...Sorry for the late comment but just had to congratulate you on your awesome work as usual. The live report was brilliant, those fan girls though are getting out of hand! I'm so glad I didn't get any trouble when I saw B-T I would have been devastated. Hats off to you for continuing to sing and dance I would have done the same, it's a concert not a museum! The album analysis is a superior work. I will be re reading that a number of times. It is clearly a labour of love and gives new depth and understanding to the songs. I for one love this album and I always suspected that Sakurai san was a metal fan! Thankyou very much for your hard work.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11245210135310001799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-1176514444361235792016-03-14T00:24:21.348+09:002016-03-14T00:24:21.348+09:00Let's just say I'm perfectly happy with &#...Let's just say I'm perfectly happy with 'The Mortal'. Actually my favourite song from his last solo was Taiji (胎兒) and I dedicated it to my own mother on facebook, which she replied not understanding a word of the song at all (....................)

But asking a fan to see a band titled Mother is just too Sadistic! He lost his mother when he was still in his early 20's, shortly before Buck-Tick released Kurutta Taiyou (this, after his father died of alcoholism when he was about 18.) "Jupiter" and "Sakura" (which was the b-side of the Jupiter single) were both songs Sakurai wrote in memoriam for his mother, as were a number of later songs over the years, including "Yuuwaku" and "Long Distance Call." I don't want to venture into speculating about the details of his feelings, but it's clear the loss affected him profoundly. If he'd named the band Mother, it would have been a dedication to her.

The copyright issues were surely not a lie, but the legal stuff was of course handled by the management office and certainly not by the band members (who may not even have been hired yet at that point.)Caycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05982217665840858486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-21097878311696163002016-03-09T22:54:59.941+09:002016-03-09T22:54:59.941+09:00Amazing analysis, I'm totally stunned and coul...Amazing analysis, I'm totally stunned and couldn't finish the reading in one take, had to take breaks in between! I thought Sakurai-san had some sort of mid age crisis for such a solo theme, but didn't realise the depth of it until reading your analysis, great job! :)

Thank god he didn't name the project Mother, bless me if I could find the courage to fly all the way to Japan for such a band. Maybe the members lied to him about copyright issues.Lisanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8994365939017837190.post-85818455763045481972016-03-09T18:42:13.813+09:002016-03-09T18:42:13.813+09:00Dear Cayce,

Cannot thank you enough (would offer return tickets to the Bosch2016 special exhibition but i am afraid that is over budget at the moment) As a student, I was not much of a fan of poetry, but this feels so warm and informative - thank you for taking us by the hand on this journey and arranging the bits of info that were all over the place in a coherent way. And thank you for the lovely wording. This not only made my week, it probably made my month.
