Buck-Tick Billboard

Buck-Tick adorably announced that they were once again going to be featured on a billboard outside Tower Records Shibuya.  Since the last time they were featured on such a billboard was before the release of Memento Mori, this is kind of a big deal for them.  Unfortunately, the billboard they're on this time is nowhere near as big as the one they were on then.  For those of you in Tokyo who'd like to check it out, it's in the entryway of Tower Records Shibuya, up in the lefthand corner, and it's kind of overshadowed by JAPAN.

Unfortunately, not this JAPAN.

(And yes, that's Tsuchiya Masami standing to the right of David Sylvian in the above picture.)

No, unfortunately, it was this Japan.

That wall is about 5 meters high, by the way.  The Buck-Tick billboard is objectively large, but subjectively small.

And here's Kuroyume advertising 109 Men's, for good measure.

  1. It's a bit hard to answer your question, when you phrase it like that.

  3. Totally unrelated to the current post but as Cayce is a long time fan I thought I might get some info here.

I have always wondered why there is so little videos available for the 1993-1996 period. Looking at their history on the B-T zone, it's not for lack of possibilities: "This is NOT Greatest Tour", "DTD Tour", "Shapeless" concerts, 'Tour 1996 Chaos".

    1. The Darker Than Darkness tour final, which took place at the Budoukan in 1993, was filmed in its entirety and it's still floating around on the net if you do a little searching. There are also videos of This is NOT Greatest Tour. However, these were both TV broadcasts, since at that time it was less common for bands to release live videos all the time, probably because they had to be released on VHS tape, I don't know. I'm not sure why there are so few videos of the Somewhere/Nowhere tour...according to interviews with the band, the footage exists, so blame Victor for that, perhaps they will release it someday. As for the Cosmos tour, it was cancelled soon after it began due to Sakurai's life-threatening illness, after which the band took a long hiatus and switched record labels from Victor to Mercury. You can imagine why there weren't many releases during that period. Based on fan accounts, the band's popularity was at an all-time low and many people thought they were gone for good. Gessekai was their comeback but it took a little time to build up their fanbase again, especially because the musical style of Sexy Stream Liner was so different. I hope that answers your question at least a little.
