Der Zibet's song "Masquerade," originally released on the 1991 album Shishinuki -Downer Side-, featured Sakurai as a guest vocalist. Issay (Der Zibet's vocalist and main lyricist) wrote the dark, brooding lyrics in Sakurai's image. Nineteen years later, Hikaru (Der Zibet's guitarist and main composer) successfully persuaded Sakurai to participate in creating a new recording of the song for Der Zibet's self-cover album Nostalgic Future, which was released on Wednesday. Yeah, I know you guys have been waiting for this one forever. Translation, as always, by Cayce, and don't you dare repost this without linking me.
Masquerade
Lyrics: Issay
Music: Hikaru
My tangled, melancholy heart
Drifting through a masquerade
Where anyone could be a clown
Faltering in lies, I’ll show you how I laugh and cry
Beneath the mask
I sing in fear
A clown without a shadow
Pretending to joke for you as I stumble
We dance too much on clouds of cigarette smoke
Dancing with the fleeting shadows
We dance too much with bundles of flowers
Clinging to our fleeting memories
Search for a dear face
In a broken mirror
Sink to the bottom of yourself
Reckon with your naked heart, all locked away
Collect your sighs
In the empty bottle
Throw them away, out the window
Show me how to loosen my tangled love
Weep at my smiles as I dance to much
Laugh at my fleeting tears
As we cling to yesterday, when we danced too much
And tomorrow, so far away
マスカレード
作詞:Issay
作曲:Hikaru
Masquerade

ReplyDeleteOh my... Bless you for this work!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it feels so frustrating that out of 14 albums by this band lyrics of only one is translated (by you, if I'm not mistaken, so thank you for this too^^). It's a very good band which music is worth listening to, and I love these guys were much, so I'm very thankful for you right now for this translation!^^
P.S. Don't you mind if share link to this post in dz-community on LJ?
Lol Cayce, already heard Buck-Tick's cover of Stalins Omae no inu ni naru? The way Sakurai sings is briliant. Or well, in this case ''singing'' wouldnt be the way to describe it, because sometimes it almost sounds like he is screaming. Love those parts. He should do that more often :)
ReplyDeleteyeah i love that song too . thats the Buck-Tick which i love . i hope They will release an album like that
ReplyDelete@ Devalmy
ReplyDeleteShare away, just please credit and link.
@ i killed Bambi
Unfortunately it's a Stalin cover. I liked the way it was very different from Buck-Tick's usual style but I doubt Imai would decide to write an album like that. However, who knows.
Cayce, are gonna write the translation + lyrics of Omae no inu ni naru? Would be great.
