  2. Am I the only one to think that the songs of the single were far better than the reworked version on the album?

I had very high expectations after the single and I must confess that I was tired when listening to the album for the first time but my impressions where: noisy, weak/generic melodies.

Today, I had the occasion to listen to it several times. I must say that it was a bit harsh: Sakurai is in top form and the music is detailed and well rendered but my impression remains that while exploring a new genre with each new album, here they are so far from their habits that Imai struggles to break the mold from bland classic melodies. I find is especially true in the first half of the songs, then it gets better.

    1. Hey Anon, why don't you try putting a name to that statement?

    2. I'd say give the reworked single songs a chance, at first they didn't strike a chord with me as well, especially I felt that the new, dreamier Melancholia didn't fit so well with the subject matter, but I'm loving them now (: It is a great album, and while some of Imai's melodies do feel familiar and "classic", I would never call them bland. They are quite lovely, actually. The one thing I could live without is that tear-jerking "nagareboshi" in Sekai wa Yami de Michiteiru, that song needs to have some pretty great lyrics to make up for it. [Thank you for the translations and notes, Cayce, eagerly looking forward to the rest!]

  3. Just give them time. They were stuck in their industrial period for quite a while, too.
