New Shiki Theme

According to the Sony official website, Mana Mary Sue Wakeshima Kanon will be teaming up with An Cafe twinkie Kanon to form the horror-rock duo kanon x kanon. Horror rock, because it's horrifying. And as befitting horror-rock, the duo's debut single, entitled "Calendula Requiem," will be used as the opening theme for the most popular horror anime on Japanese TV--yes, that's right, it's going to replace "Kuchizuke" as the opening theme for our own dear Shiki.

I guess they couldn't have Buck-Tick do the ending and the opening themes simultaneously, but all I can say is, come on, guys, seriously?

And do these campers look happy, I ask you?

Oh, and if you haven't watched Shiki yet, please don't let An Cafe boys and strawberry-licking lolitas stop you from watching it. Watch it I tell you! Alone in a dark room, preferably. It is a delicious creepfest and more than worth your time and nightmares.

Kuchizuke Translation

Kiss
Lyrics: Sakurai Atsushi
Music: Imai Hisashi

I love you…could I say I love you?
Shut your mouth, close your eyes
To the kiss of my sin

I love you…I’m sure I love you
Close my eyes, piercing your throat
With the kiss of my sin

I can never go back
But it’s fine by me
Gazing deep in the night
Drinking down the wine

I love you…I love you more and more
Driven mad by a vicious thirst
Close your eyes to the kiss of my sin

Driven mad by your scent
Waking deep in the night
Drinking love and lunacy

Come into my arms…that darkness is bitter
You’re bewitched yet you waver
Come, be now forever…this darkness is sweet
I’ll pierce you so deep

Driven mad by your scent
Waking deep in the night
Drinking love and lunacy

Come into my arms…that darkness is bitter
You’re bewitched yet you waver
Come, be now forever…this darkness is sweet
I’ll pierce you so deep

Come into my arms…that darkness is bitter
You’re smiling a little
This will make you forever…this darkness is sweet
I’ll pierce you so deep

Note: The lines in the chorus "that darkness is bitter/this darkness is sweet" are a reference to a Japanese folk song called "Hotaru Koi" ("Come, Firefly"). The original song goes, "Come, firefly/Over there the water is bitter/Over here the water is sweet." Also not to come across as rude, but the translation of this song that appeared in the fan-subbed version of the Shiki anime was wildly inaccurate, so please put it out of your minds.

P.S. For what it's worth, Cayce is translating professionally these days, but this translation is a free gift of love.

10.07.10 fanmail: "the Shiki opening theme"

.

I got fanmail about the Shiki opening theme right away.

Thank you.

.

The animation that was linked to the lyrics and rhythms.

It's great.

.

.

I have to go back to the studio already...

寿記 04.07.10 Kuchizuke & Shiki

.

This is our new song.

To be released on September 1st.

It's going to be the opening theme of the anime series "Shiki" on Fuji Television.

.

.

"Shiki" is a novel by Ono Fuyumi.

I used to have a hard cover copy of the whole thing right here in this very room,

And I thought to myself, "This looks very interesting, but I'll read it after I finish reading Tokyo Ibun."

So I kept putting off reading it.

Tokyo Ibun is also an Ono Fuyumi novel.

.

Then the novel "Shiki" got made into a manga drawn by Fujisaki Ryuu, and then into the television anime series.

I have every volume of the manga series "Houshin Engi," also drawn by Fujisaki Ryuu.

.

So then I read the manga for "Shiki."

It was really good.

...but....really....scary!

So scary, there were parts where I wanted to shout aloud "oh god, this is too fucking scary!"

.

.

I started making "Kuchizuke" after I read the manga.

Alone, in my basement room.

It was scary.

I kept worrying what I would see if I turned around...

.

The image I was trying to paint with this song is "the night with no dawn."

The working title for it was "Prologue."

I think I made something that's both strong, violent, and melodious.

A song full of junk sounds, and sweeeeet sounds.

.

The anime starts airing on July 8th.

...I'm really excited.

.

NoitaminA

INIMISONATO

.

But still, a song I wrote, as the opening theme for the work of Ono Fuyumi and Fujisaki Ryuu...

It's just, amazing, really.

.

So this picture was taken at the site of the "Kuchizuke" PV filming...

.

.

...? ...wait...I think you can see something that looks like people...

Though it wasn't a place that people could get to...

Well, whatever.
