This is NOT Greatest Site 15th Anniversary

Hey, folks! How are y'all holding up? We hope you're all staying well, staying warm, and staying stimulated. Not stimulated enough? We have something to help you with that - the translated lyrics, kanji and romaji for "Dance Tengoku"! Are you, too, sick of gender labels? Are you, too, just itching to get sweaty and dance at a party where everyone's hot, everyone's sweaty, and nobody's socially distanced? Well head on over to This is NOT Greatest Site and indulge yourself in a fantasy world that may seem impossible at this moment but if we keep praying and touching ourselves, it will come back! Pop the champagne, take off your clothes and dance alone in your room in front of your stereo with "Dance Tengoku" on repeat at full blast, to celebrate with us, because...

Today, January 27th, 2021, is the 15th anniversary of the launch of This is NOT Greatest Site!!!

Yeah, we can't believe it either. When we started the site back in 2006, we sure as hell had no idea where we'd be or what we'd be doing in 2021, but if we'd had to take a guess... we probably wouldn't have guessed that we'd still be running the site. We surely had no idea what it would become. The whole thing started as a casual project to make fun of j-rock fan sites, while bringing Buck-Tick to the world in English translation. It's been thanks to you readers that over the years we've grown as we have. Hearing from so many of you in so many countries around the world has turned out to be the most rewarding, exciting part of the whole project. Hearing about your countries, your thoughts and feelings about music, art, and life, has been special like nothing else. Since we started NGS, we've watched Buck-Tick's overseas fandom go from a few dozen people to thousands, maybe tens of thousands, like a firework exploding in slow motion. If we've had any part to play in that explosion, we're honored beyond words. Because from everything y'all have written to us over the years, it's clear that y'all really, truly love and appreciate Buck-Tick the way they deserve to be appreciated and loved. Thank y'all! We've been doing this for y'all. We wouldn't still be here without you.

Also, thank y'all for your great patience with our health struggles and our lack of updates. An even bigger thanks to the many of you who've supported us on Ko-Fi. Your support has been an inspiration to us to keep going even through some very difficult times. The internet may be full of trolls and bots and illiterate flamers but we wouldn't know that, because y'all are so smart and polite and friendly. Thanks for being the best readers ever♥

Anyhow, please feel free to let us know in the comments (or in an email) how long you've been reading the site, what your favorite parts are, and what kind of content you'd like to see more of. Anyone on here who's been reading since the beginning? Anyone on here who just discovered the site recently? Anyone on here who's been listening to Buck-Tick since they were a child? Anyone on here who's younger than NGS!? Let us know!

We wish we had more to share on such a special day, but we don't, really, so we'll leave y'all with this.

Update: holy crap, Blogger is telling us that this is the 666th post we've made on Blog-Tick to date. How serendipitous that it was this one!

  1. Congratulations Cayce! 15 years, wow. You worked hard to be the best, the best Acchan Fangirl! With the greatest international site based in Japan. No, sorry, This is NOT the Greatest Site and BUCK-TICK is NOT the father of Visual Kei. The mother ...X Japan? What's up with that rumor!?? B-T is not guilty! Malefic twitter, evil!

I met you the last summer but I love you so, so much......Eureka and Villain? How many coffees do you need from me? Ok, I'll be waiting for the service without paying.
And something more, Romance and The 13th floor should have been the first international BUCK-TICK's release? Will you analyze Imai's lyrics? Full Angelic conversation, please. I have noticed, in few lyrics analysis, some connotations that you keep for you. ? . or maybe not, it's just my madness. And is it true? you are taller than the tallest elf of all tallest elves?

And Keep alive Cayce! Health for you! Bye! But let me tell you just one more thing. Without this site I would have gone without understanding, without caring nothing about who would later be my favorite male artist.

    Grazie, sogno di sogni.

    1. "Become the best Acchan fangirl" wasn't ever quite our goal, especially since we are genderless figments of the internet, but... now that he wears rainbows, lipstick and garters, how can we refuse?

Buck-Tick were a preliminary influence on the visual kei movement, so they get lumped in with visual kei for that reason - mainly because they've made so much use of flamboyant costumes, makeup, and staging. X Japan are by rights the actual first visual kei band, because they were the ones who came up with the term - their phrase "psychedelic violence crime of visual shock" was where the term "visual kei" got lifted from. However, after a certain point, arguing about genres does get a bit pointless and pedantic.

13th Floor... at that time, they didn't have much of an international following, and they had even less idea that they had an international following at all. But it was a beginning. Angelic Conversation - challenge accepted. Stay tuned.

If I were actually taller than the tallest elf of all the tallest elves, I wouldn't be able to fit through a single doorway in this country. So I'll stick to medium-tall elf. It's hard enough to find shoes that fit as it is!

      Thanks for your support :)

  6. Congrats for these 15 years! I actually found out about the band around a year ago now, and one of the first things I could get my hands on when trying to search for info was NGS, and somehow I still find myself going back to it whenever I get curious about something to do with the band. I'm sure this has been the same for countless fans across the years. I'd like to thank you a lot for your hard work and I look forward to the future of the site!

  8. Congrats on 15 years! I discovered Buck-Tick around 2006, so I'd have to guess I discovered you around the same time, or at least within a couple of years of your beginnings. Loads of appreciation for everything you do! My experience of Buck-Tick wouldn't be half of what it is without you. :)

  9. Oh my gosh, happy 15th anniversary! 666 posts is a lot of blogging. I’ve been reading your website since I first learned about BUCK-TICK in 2013 and started getting as much of their stuff as I could. (Yeah, I’m a long-time lurker. Sorry! I do occasionally comment anonymously.) Lyrics analysis, sing-along lyrics, and interviews are my favorite parts. Your website and analysis have also taught me a great deal about the actual band members’ lives, and I have to say I wouldn’t have nearly the respect that I do for them without all that knowledge. This band truly is rare and phenomenal—and so are you! Thank you so much for all the time, perseverance, and dedication to us overseas fans! May the year ahead be much better than 2020, and bring much health, happiness, and good fortune to you.

  10. Happy 15th Anniversary! I remember following this blog when it was still around 4-5 years old. I can't believe it has been this long. Cheers and more power!🎉🎂

  11. Happy anniversary Cayce!I have been a fan for 5 years and the fandom wouldn't be as fun without my friends and your excellent blog. I enjoy live reports and lyric analysis that are comparable to academic reading, but maybe we need that when nowadays people are forgetting the power of words and only have patience for pictures. Stay healthy and have more fun with us!

  12. Congratulations on the 15 years anniversary, and thank you guys for all your hard work!

I'm actually a super new fan that got into Buck-Tick just last month, so I'm about 35 years late to the party. (My excuse is that I wasn't even born yet when they made it big in Japan).

The first song I heard from Buck-Tick was "Dress", when it was used as the OP to Trinity Blood (which I loved) many years ago. But I never looked into the band further at the time, and it's only recently when I was revisiting some of my favourite anime songs that I saw the PV for the first time. I immediate felt the burning need to learn more about the incredibly beautiful and handsome Sakurai Atsushi, and now I have Buck-Tick songs on repeat haha. (I've probably also spent an unhealthy amount of time consuming everything I can get my hands on for Acchan's long hair era lol.)

One of the things I was most pleasantly surprised about was all the fansites and resources for Buck-Tick in English. I love lyrics, and since I regularly listen to songs from a variety of languages, I always try to look up translations so I can better understand what the artists are trying to convey. When it comes to Buck-Tick's songs, it helps that I am fluent in Chinese and have taken some Japanese classes in high school and uni, but my level is not good enough to fully understand the full meaning behind the lyrics. I was worried that maybe only their most popular title tracks would have been translated, and it is SUCH a wonderful feeling to be able to look up translations to what seems like every single one of their songs because of your incredible work.

As someone who is new to the site, I just wanted to leave a comment saying how much I appreciate having such resources available, it really helped me get more into the band!

  13. Omg, I laughed at loud at Buck-tickistan 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sounds like a dream country, how can I get the citizenship? I've just calculated that I've been listening to BT since I was about 17, and it turns to be 13 years this year. I'm so grateful that you never dropped this project. I don't remember in which year I've found this site, but it is at least 10 years. I adore how scrupulous you about your translations and I've learned a lot of interesting things through your comments. おめでとう!!!
