In addition, more detailed information has been released about the special bonus goods that fans will receive if they buy their copies of I Am Mortal at various record outlets in Japan. Fans who purchase the album at Tower Records will receive an original sticker, while fans who purchase the album at HMV will receive an original clear file folder. Fans who purchase their copies of the album at other designated record stores including Tsutaya will receive an original poster.
.
Beyond that, The Mortal will be appearing on two special InterFM radio programs on November 11th, in honor of the release of their album. From 8PM till 9PM, InterFM will run a special radio program called "The Mortal Special," featuring Mr. Sakurai as a guest DJ! Then, later that evening, from 2AM to 5AM, InterFM will broadcast "Goth Night," a three-hour music program devoted to goth classics from Bauhaus, The Cure, and more. The Mortal's tracks will presumably also be played.
And this is where those of you who don't live in Japan are lucky, because those of us who DO live in Japan and have work the next day will have to stay awake all night just to listen to this...but believe me, it WILL be worth listening to. Gothic rock was wildly popular in Japan in the 80's, but it's long since been relegated to extreme underground status in a music scene that is now completely dominated by idols and saccharine acoustic feel-good pop-rock acts. To hear gothic rock on the radio is truly an opportunity to be treasured.
And if you're the type of fan who doesn't know anything about the history of goth, has only ever listened to a small handful of Japanese bands, and thinks that goth means Malice Mizer and gothic lolita, I especially encourage you to tune in - this is a great opporunity for you to learn about the music that shaped Mr. Sakurai's sensibilities and also had a huge influence on the evolution of Buck-Tick and the genesis of the visual kei movement. None of the Japanese music you know and love would exist without the influence of the British 80's goth movement, so it's important that you learn about your roots!
.
But wait...there's more! In addition to being featured on the cover of this month's issue of Rock & Read, Mr. Sakurai will also be featured in an interview for Rolling Stone Japan, AND The Mortal will appear on the cover of next month's issue of PHY magazine, a glossy mook released quarterly that has previously featured Buck-Tick numerous times, in the context of Mr. Sakurai's guest apperance on Der Zibet's album Nostalgic Future in 2010, and for Toll's 50th birthday show in 2012, among others. If you wish to order either magazine through Cayce, just send us an email.
.
Beyond that, limited edition The Mortal tour goods will be available through the Buck-Tick web shop until November 2nd. These goods will ONLY be available through the Buck-Tick web shop, and they will ONLY be available till November 2nd, so if you want yours, act fast! The limited edition goods are as follows:
Album Jacket T-shirt
3500 yen, available in sizes small, medium, and large

You say I am lucky for not living in Japan , but this radiophone does not work for me. I wanted to listen to Atsushi so I went to the site a few minuets before the start of the programm and it said that it can't be done. Is just few countries that are excluded or more? I am not that good with japanese(and english)
ReplyDeleteYo Anonymous, you'll need to go through a VPN... search the wonderland of Internet to find out how to... various free VPN providers online....and then listen to the radio online through Radiko..The program with Mr. Sakurai as guest DJ, if we're lucky, some good Samaritan might post it on Yout**e later (just like this past one on 10/16), but probably not the 3hr program. I mean not to spam or promote so I'll stop here before Cayce kicks me out.
ReplyDeleteThey 'll probably post it but who knows when we'll get e translation. They posted the other interview on YT but ofc no translation. Never felt so bad for not knowing a language.:(
ReplyDeleteRather than sighing passive-aggressively in the comments section, why don't you share the link and actually ask me to translate it?
DeleteCould you please translate it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuYOAlFjRO0
DeleteSince the band wrote all the songs this time around, I'm assuming there won't be a whole lot of guest appearances at the concerts. So I've got to ask - have you heard anything on the grapevine that indicates otherwise?
