For Elise PV

For those of you who haven't seen this already, here it is.

This, I think, demonstrates quite well why Buck-Tick made the decision to start their own label. Amazing, how as soon as they break out on their own the unrelated story lines and inexplicable white girls vanish, to be replaced by simple dark interiors, interesting lighting, and artsy camera angles, all which serve to enhance rather than detract from the band members themselves, who are, after all, what we came to see. Is this a good thing? In a word, yes.

Also Imai and Sakurai seem to have melded over the years to the point that Imai is now writing lyrics that really sound like Sakurai should have written them (though I can't translate them yet because I need the official lyric sheet for that.) As for the music, we've got hints of Buck-Tick's dark late 90's period, stuff like "love letter," "heroin" and "Maria," run through the clean straight rock filter of their later sound. The fluff has been trimmed, and so has the sentimentality. Banzai.

  1. This sounds a lot like another song of theirs, lyric-wise... I can't for the life of me remember what it's called though. I can sort-of sing it, but hnnngg. Know which one I mean?
Anyway, yeah I like this one.

  2. Well, I fucking love this single - music and PV both - even not understanding more than a couple of words of the lyrics. The riff gets down in your bones like some of my favourite tunes of theirs.

    GET IN, as they say.

  3. Liking the song quite a bit. I'd say that it sorta sounds like it came from the Mona Lisa Overdrive sessions, but with a more straight forward (and maybe more mature) feel.

Though I kinda wish there was more to the video than just "5 guys pretend to play instruments in a warehouse" but, hey, they're technically an indie band again so they've gotta watch their budget.

  4. Elise. This one smells of (and looks like) Six/Nine, which is... nice. I can't say I'm too impressed with the melody this time (I find it a little -too- simple, bordering on uninteresting), but I'm sure the song will grow on me over time. In the meantime, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the b-side.

All in all, it's great seeing the boys again. (And, of course, seeing Sakurai-san's Stare of Doom™ pierce through shadows and strands of hair like a heated knife through butter. All is well. <3 )

  5. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm so glad I'm a May baby. My broke ass has pre-ordered the limited edition weeks ago. ^_^

S'cuse me while I go listen to this on loop via YouTube about 20 times.

    Thanks.

  6. The melody of this song is no more or less simple than any of Buck-Tick's other simple melodies. Their talent as a band lies in putting together a whole lot of laughably simple little pieces into a whole that's greater than the sum of its parts. I've got to say I love the video, I was getting really sick of those pointless random characters showing up.

@ thecherrytasty - actually this song has a number of very unusual lyrics in it, as well as a number of common words that have appeared in many other BT songs.

    @ Mawb - Yes.

  7. Ohh..Yeeas!
This is rock -\n/- roll !!
The old school guys are back!

I wonder if Imaisan is a secret Master-Yoga?
I'm going to have fun plucking the daisy petals..
"He'll put his leg behind his neck, he will not..."
Anyway, this is the band sound! Simple and genius!

  9. Of course I had to watch the nico nico transmission - just after a second of listening to lyrics I though of exactly same thing - Imai and Atsushi started to perfectly reflect each other , so many years of true, long relationship shows its effects now.
Love the song and its simple but catchy riff and structure reminded me of 'Zangai's one, surely as You mentioned - darker years of B-T. <3

  10. @ angel tears - Yeah, I hated the random characters. If they'd had anything to do with the songs it would have been better, but they were just such pointless marketing tools.

@ aisasaint - it occurred to me after thinking for a while that the melodic structure is a lot like "Paradise," another wonderful and under-appreciated song from Buck-Tick's dark new wave period.

  11. I prefer it when their PVs go for simplicity rather than throwing-in-random-things, so I'm very pleased with this one, (but because liking a song will often make me like a video, I still enjoy most of their PVs, anyway).

    @Cayce: After the first listen, I had the Elise guitar riff stuck in my head, and the vocal of Paradise kept playing with it. Glad I'm not the only one who thought of the similarities. ^^;

Jfc, I'm excited about this album~
