New World, New Lyrics

.

The lyrics and translations to both tracks on New World are now up over on This is NOT Greatest Site, so go and feast your curiosity! I must say that I'm extremely glad I chose to hold off on translating these until I had a chance to read the official lyric booklet - after ten years of doing this I thought I'd gotten pretty good at deciphering lyrics, but it turns out what I thought I heard was nothing but a bunch of mondegreens, which means that "mondegreen" is now our official Not Greatest Word of the Day. What does it mean? It means, a misheard word. Like when you were a kid and you thought the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was called "Lucy and This Guy with Diamonds."

In any case, I have saved myself from embarrassment by rightfully refusing to print the mondegreens, and thus I offer you nothing but the 100% accurate official lyrics. As usual, I have written my English lyrics to be singable with the original melody, which means that I've stretched the meaning in a few places, but not by so much that it matters. There's a lot to discuss, content-wise, so if you'd like to discuss, feel free to do so in the comments section of this post.

  1. Thank you once again for the hard work on the lyrics translations. Just waiting for my copy of the aingle and album to arrive to listen to them with your translations.

  2. Thank you so much Cayce! As usual, top quality translation. I'm sure lots of people are waiting for your opinion on both songs of the single though. (I know I do)

  3. Thank you! Opinions? To be honest, I wasn't really hyped about the lyrics of New World from the bits I recognized, and the translation only goes a little way to remedy that (I like the water/spiraling image). But it's good, there's an elegance to Sakurai's delivery and it's a good theme song for the album. Adore the lyrics of Devil's Wings though! I've never read anyone write of emptiness like Sakurai, in The Mortal and now here, it speaks to me. And the image of falling into the sky is neat, and the cells/multiplying!

  4. Thank you for the translations, I'm not sure but maybe I have new visions into the style of the new album, not as cheerful as I thought? Lyrics to New World implied sad visions in Sakurai's dark aesthetics.

    1. I just listed to the new album, but the title is wrong, it should be "Not greatest hits No 2".

There is a word we never heard in this album: "dance". And indeed where is the usual flowing, dancing grace of their songs?

It may be just that I don't like the style, but for me this album is just one of Buck-Tick's rare flop.

    2. Are you kidding me? A flop? I couldn't disagree more if I tried. The entire album is nothing but tango and EDM beats: dance the night away.

    3. Sorry, but I have yet to hear a B-T fan that didn't like the album. The social media has spoken.

  5. Thank you for the translations Cayce! :) both songs are very elegant in their way. Devil's wings feels a bit more intriguing so I am rather curious to see (aka read in your reports) how it will match with the visuals and the delivery on stage..... But it does make feel the chills of loneliness sprouting like black wings...
